Feasting on Asphalt

Finally had a sunny weekend.  A few of us, Woody, George, Gary and even Scotty B himself got out on the bikes and rode out to J & S Fish Camp.  It was a good day for a ride, a little hot and humid, but at least we didn’t get rained on.  The ride out was slow and easy.  We got there, ordered a round of beer and met up with Scotty’s friend Big Kelly.  Kelly’s an amazing mountain of a man, with a concrete block handshake and loud friendly laugh.

One of the reasons I like to head out to the fish camp is for the music.  Usually, on Sundays, they have one of the best guitar pickers I have ever heard.  Unfortunately, Ben Prestage wasn’t playing and they had some other guy playing guitar karaoke. Guitar Karaoke is what I called a singer/guitarist who plays with a computerized backup band.  This guy was technically okay, and played some good songs, but he was way too loud for the crowd.  Thumbs down on that.

Anyway, after a few rounds of beer, we bid adieu to Kelly and headed back home (to Scotty B’s that is).  It was a quick trip home, not slow and easy like the way we went out, but fast and crazy.  I guess that the way it happens after a few rounds of beer.  Fortunately, we got back without and loss of life or limb and settled into Hells Corner at the end of Scotty B’s bar.  Had a couple more beers, ordered some food to go and got going back to the house.

That’s when I watched the new Alton Brown show, Feasting on Asphalt.  I’m an Alton fan and it’s a new show and as far as episode one was concerned, he hasn’t let me down.  He even tried feasting on a pickled pig’s foot.  He’s the man.
